"International Trends in Solid State Lighting- Current challenges and New Opportunities"

Abstract:
Today we are seeing unprecedented interest in high-brightness LED applications, in part due to the focus on energy efficiency and new "green", eco-friendly solutions. Yet there remain certain technical and global marketing challenges that solid state lighting manufacturers may wish to address, in order to establish a higher value for their LED-based products and accelerate world-wide consumer adoption. Mr. Eskow will present HBLED application-by-sector trends, and detail a few of the most significant design hurdles to overcome - Consumer expectations in the US and Europe, maximizing useful operating life, thermal management and emerging safety issues. He will conclude with a look towards HBLED applications in the near future; as a means to "change the game" by increasing the value proposition solid state lighting in non-traditional ways, such as zonal color temperature control and influencing circadian rhythm.

"LED revolution in the Functional Lighting Space"

Abstract:
One of the key factors contributing to the OPEX of businesses is the high power bills resulting from the usage of inefficient lighting products. Given that they consume less energy, have high reliability, last longer, are of a smaller size and provide for faster switching, LEDs (light emitting diodes) are poised to emerge as the lighting product of choice for industries, restaurants, business establishments and offices. As Indian companies and businesses increase office space, LEDs are expected to usher in a revolution in functional lighting with the focus being on clean and efficient lighting solutions. Though the initial investments are high, the long term benefits of adopting LEDs will appeal to those in requirement of energy efficient functional lighting solutions. In this presentation, we will discuss the inherent advantages of LEDs over traditional lighting sources and their applications in the functional lighting space. Given that an LED light source is not a standalone product but is a technology environment, we will also highlight need for efficient enabling technologies like drivers, thermal management and optics. The presentation will also discuss how users will see a significant lowering of their TCO and a corresponding increase in their ROI of 300% compared to CFLs in a span of 10 years.

14:45 - 15:20 (Presentation 5)
Mr. K Vijaya Kumar Gupta
Past President ELCINA
MD, Kwality Photonics
Hyderabad

"Advances in Solid State Lighting & Cost Reduction Technique"

Abstract:
Last decade research led to LED Based Lighting to emerge as strong contender for the Mainstream Lighting (GLS, FTL and CFL) thanks to steep rise in efficiency( 110Lumens/Watt) and steep fall in price (US Cent0.7 per lumen). Present Demand Scenario: Role of Equipment and Process Technology Energy savings Potential of LEDs Past Trends in Cost Of Solid State Lighting What will influence the future Cost of SSL

15:30 - 16:05 (Presentation 6)
Mr. Vikrant Mahajan
Labsphere Inc, USA

"Industry Standards and Techniques for LED/SSL measurements"

Abstract:
  • New industry standards for Testing and qualification of LED and LED based products
  • Why LED testing and quality check is important
  • The important test parameters for specifying LED properties etc.

16:15 onwards - (Tea + Networking + Expo Visit)

Day 2:

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

  9:45 – 10:15 (Delegate Registration)

10:15 - 10:50 (Presentation 7)
Mr. P. Gowda
Osram Opto Semiconductors
Country General Manager

"Taking it to the streets; applying LEDs in Commercial Exterior Applications."

Abstract:
Today, increasing number of firms are changing from different industries such as traditional lighting fixture manufacturers, consumer electronics manufacturers etc., to SSL ( Solid State Lighting) industry. Due to the rapid increase in competition, the new and existing SSL players are facing tremendous pressure including price reduction, shorter life span of products, increased need for new product innovation & Market positioning.

In order to support continuous growth of SSL players, this presentation will share the SSL industry Market Analysis in three parts:
  • Market drivers for LED adoption.
  • LED technology for SSL product innovation.
  • Benefits of using LED for street lighting applications.
This analysis provides SSL players an overview which could support them to create new market, product & business strategies. If these strategies are executed effectively, more & more opportunities could be captured by SSL players in India.

Led Wow Feature - 'Asian Paint Signature Store'

Abstract:
The global awareness of energy use is creating the need for a more responsible attitude towards the use of light where as awareness of biological effect of light is gaining momentum which triggers Emotions in different ways and has a profound impact in a way people perceive and experience their environment.

The physical and biological properties of light satisfy the inner scientist but these needs to be balanced with the creative and visual aspects of light that satisfy inner artist. This can be done by formally educated professional and independent Lighting designer. The lighting design profession is growing and is being recognised globally.

LED - the product of 21st Century- is a contributor to both the factor - energy saving and creating emotion - The Wow Feature as one of its application.

In this presentation some of the interesting LED Wow Features created world over in span of just few years and one of the case study - Asian Paint Signature Store LED Wow Feature are discussed.
